Day 589

3 documented wins

Day 589Government

Login.gov as the government’s sign-on

The win

OMB issued a policy requiring Login.gov for most public-facing federal services, so a person is not inventing a new username for every agency window. Identity proofing stays inside the .gov domain, using commercial tools the government already buys once.

For Americans

Nearly two-thirds of surveyed Americans called repetitive government forms a hassle. One sign-on is how a tax filing, a benefit check, and a license renewal stop being three separate scavenger hunts.

Day 589Health

Nine more drugmakers on most-favored-nation prices

The win

Trump announced most-favored-nation pricing deals with nine additional manufacturers — Alcon, Astellas, BeOne, BridgeBio, CSL, Kyowa Kirin, Sun Pharma, Teva, and UCB — bringing the roster to 26 firms covering 89% of the branded market. The pacts reach drugs for hemophilia, Parkinson’s, macular degeneration, glaucoma, liver disease, skin conditions, and cancers. The nine pledged $19.6 billion in U.S. manufacturing and donations into the Strategic Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Reserve.

For Americans

Every state Medicaid program gets the lowest developed-nation price those companies charge abroad. A refill that used to be a monthly shock is the part a family feels.

Day 589Energy

Venezuela oil agreement — 65 billion barrels

The win

The White House announced an oil agreement signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Venezuelan interim authorities granted North American Blue Energy Partners 100-year concessions on 17 fields holding about 65 billion barrels. The United States takes a 35% equity stake at no taxpayer cost, a right to buy 20% of offtake at production cost, and first refusal on the rest.

For Americans

Gulf Coast refineries are built for this crude. A locked-in offtake at cost is how you refill the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and take some of the panic out of a pump-price spike.

For people abroad

Venezuela’s interim authorities get a private operator and an expected $200 billion in royalties and taxes over 25 years for reconstruction. The fields stay in the hemisphere instead of going to a distant bidder.
