Day 626

2 documented wins

Day 626Economy

70 million Trump Accounts opened

The win

Treasury finished automatic enrollment on October 1. Nearly 70 million Trump Accounts now exist, more than 60 million of them opened automatically, for eligible children under 18 who have a Social Security number. A one-time $1,000 government seed has put $1.3 billion into eligible accounts so far. More than $4.5 billion has been deposited since the July 4 launch, including $2.6 billion in philanthropic gifts and over $600 million from family and friends. Parents claim an account in the Trump Accounts app.

For Americans

The $1,000 seed is not a check for every one of the 70 million children, and it is not a school voucher. An account exists. The government deposit is only the slice already counted in that $1.3 billion.

Day 626Government

Identity-theft desk and a boondoggle list

The win

Trump signed H.R. 5345, the Improving Social Security’s Service to Victims of Identity Theft Act. It gives a person whose Social Security number was misused, or whose card was lost, a single point of contact at the Social Security Administration. The same day he signed S. 766, the Billion Dollar Boondoggle Act of 2025, which requires an annual report on federally funded projects more than five years behind schedule or more than $1 billion over the original cost estimate.

For Americans

A stolen number should not mean a scavenger hunt across the agency. And a project that is five years late or a billion over should show up on a public list, not only in a hearing.
