Day 607

3 documented wins

Day 607Economy

H-1B layoffs counted, $100,000 entry kept

The win

Trump signed an order directing State, Labor, and Homeland Security to weigh whether a petitioning employer laid off similarly situated U.S. workers in the prior year — or plans to — when they decide labor-condition applications, H-1B petitions, visas, and entries. Commerce, Education, and SBA feed wage and employment data. The same day he extended the September 2025 proclamation: from September 21, 2026 through September 21, 2027, H-1B specialty workers outside the United States generally cannot enter unless the petition is accompanied by a $100,000 payment, with limited national-interest exceptions.

For Americans

A firm that dumps a software team in Texas and files H-1Bs the next quarter is supposed to have that on the form. The $100,000 gate is how a lottery stops being a wage cut.

Day 607Health

MFN drug prices for every Medicaid program

The win

The White House said every state Medicaid program — all 50 states, D.C., and Puerto Rico — now gets most-favored-nation prices under the manufacturer agreements. Participating drugmakers rebate so Medicaid does not pay more than the lowest developed-nation price, covering hundreds of brand drugs in oncology, diabetes, and asthma. CEA estimates $64.3 billion in Medicaid drug savings over ten years — $36.6 billion federal, $27.6 billion state. That is separate from the August 31 roster of nine additional manufacturers.

For Americans

A child on Medicaid in Florida or a senior in dual coverage is not supposed to pay the highest sticker on Earth. Matching the foreign price on the state ledger is how that shows up in a formulary, not a speech.

Day 607World

Russia and Iran sanctions act signed

The win

Trump signed H.R. 5334, the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026. The statute authorizes and expands sanctions, tariffs, and prohibitions on Russia and extends existing Iran sanctions.

For Americans

A refinery that buys discounted Russian crude and a bank that clears Iranian oil both just got a longer statutory stick, not a one-off executive memo.

For people abroad

Ukrainians fighting a war funded by oil sales, and Iranians living under a regime that sells crude to pay for proxies, feel this as pressure on the money — not as a communique.
