Day 582
1 documented win
Education Freedom Tax Credit, up to $1,700
The win
The Working Families Tax Cuts — the July 4, 2025 tax law — created a federal Education Freedom Tax Credit of up to $1,700. The credit is for gifts to an approved scholarship group, and those scholarships can cover tuition, books, and other school costs. Nearly 52 million students are eligible, but only if the governor opts the state in. Contributions can start January 1, 2027.
For Americans
This is not a per-student check from Washington. A taxpayer who gives to a scholarship group can cut their own tax bill by up to $1,700, and a family in an opted-in state can use that money for school costs.
